Mardi Gras
Child Care Resources of Rockland celebrates Mardi Gras on Fat Tuesday by honoring community members that serve as role models for the rest of us in their relentless and untiring efforts to provide the best for children and families in Rockland County. We do this by awarding them the “Purple Crayon Award”.
You may be asking, however, why the “Purple Crayon Award?” Harold and the Purple Crayon, written and illustrated by Crockett Johnson in 1955, is a beloved classic in children’s literature. In the story, a young boy named Harold decides to take a walk one evening. With his purple crayon, he creates a magical world of his own design, and discovers the power of his own ingenuity and imagination. Children have found Harold’s story completely absorbing for decades, captivated by its simplicity and cleverness. So successful was this story that four more sequels were written, including Harold’s Fairy Tale, Harold’s Trip to the Sky, Harold’s Circus and Harold’s ABC.
We feel that recognizing our honorees with the Purple Crayon Award is appropriate. Leadership in providing services to children and families requires ingenuity, cleverness, persistence and above all an appreciation for what is both simple and true.
How You Can Help…
We are looking for businesses and individuals to help us support this fundraising event. All proceeds directly support quality care and education for children and families in Rockland County. You can help by placing an ad in our souvenir journal or by doanting goods/services to our silent auction.
